What You're Wondering

Getting started can be confusing. We're here to help.
We've gathered answers to the questions our clients ask most often—from how sessions work to what you can expect along the way.

Frequency Asked Questions

A real conversation—not an interrogation. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re hoping to get out of therapy, and any concerns or questions you have. I’ll ask about your history, patterns, and current stressors, but at a pace that feels comfortable. No pressure to spill everything at once.

Standard sessions are 50–55 minutes. Longer sessions can be scheduled if clinically appropriate or requested in advance.

We believe clients thrive when they can connect with us face-to-face in our offices, and we encourage in-person sessions whenever possible—there’s something grounding about being in the same room.
Telehealth appointments are absolutely available when needed.

Everyone is welcome. 🏳️‍🌈

I work with adults (18+) of all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences.

Yes. I am in-network with:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)
  • Cigna

I also offer a sliding scale for out-of-pocket clients based on financial need.

If you have a different insurance plan, I’m able to provide a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

No surprises, no confusion. Benefits will be verified during intake.

Totally understandable—and more common than people admit. My style is direct, collaborative, and human. No judgment, no coddling, no nonstop “mhmm-ing.” You’re not expected to perform or be the “perfect client.” I work at your pace with honesty and transparency.

That’s normal. You don’t need a script, a clear goal, or a prepared speech. Part of my job is helping you make sense of everything...even the things that feel tangled, confusing, or impossible to articulate.

Friends care about you, but they’re not trained to hold your story without projecting their own into it. They might give advice based on their experiences, try to fix things quickly, or unintentionally minimize something because they don’t know what to do with the discomfort.

With me, you get something different:

  • No bias, no personal history, no need to “keep the peace.”
  • Clinical insight into the patterns you’ve been living with for years.
  • Honest feedback delivered with compassion, not judgment.
  • Space where you don’t have to protect or reassure me.
  • A relationship built entirely around your healing—not reciprocity.
  • Support that helps you understand the why beneath your patterns, not just the surface-level story.

Talking to a friend can offer temporary relief.

Talking to a therapist helps you create lasting change.

Sometimes, but only if it’s actually useful. I don’t hand out generic worksheets or busywork. Any take-home work is personalized, relevant, and designed to support real change, not just to fill time between sessions.

Then you’re a human being. All of that is welcome. Therapy isn’t a performance; you don’t have to package your emotions to make them presentable.

Most clients start with weekly sessions. As things improve, we may shift to biweekly or whatever pacing fits your needs and goals.

We’ll decide together.

It depends on the person and the situation. Some people feel relief after the first session because someone finally gets it. Others feel a bit overwhelmed at first because therapy brings clarity to things they’ve avoided.

Here’s what I can promise:

  • You won’t feel better instantly every time.
  • But you will start understanding patterns you’ve never been able to name before.
  • You’ll react differently to things that used to derail you.
  • You’ll build insight, emotional regulation, confidence, and self-respect.

Most clients notice shifts within a few weeks and deeper, more sustainable changes over several months. Therapy isn’t a quick fix—but it’s a real path out of cycles that have drained you for years.

Yes—and without shame. We’ll explore your relationship with substances honestly and respectfully, not moralistically. Whether your goal is reduction, clarity, or sobriety, we’ll meet you where you are and build something realistic together.

My approach is grounded, human, and built around you—not a rigid protocol. I draw from person-centered therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Gestalt principles, and CBT, but I use them flexibly and intentionally, not as a one-size-fits-all script. The goal is to understand your world, your patterns, and your needs so we can create meaningful, lasting change.

Here’s what that actually looks like:

  • Real conversations with real depth—not surface-level fixes or scripted responses.
  • A collaborative, person-centered focus where you’re the expert on your life and I help you make sense of things you’ve carried for years.
  • Motivational Interviewing to explore ambivalence with curiosity, not pressure.
  • Gestalt-informed awareness to help you understand what’s happening in your body, emotions, and internal dialogue in real time.
  • CBT techniques used thoughtfully—not as a checklist—to help you identify beliefs and habits keeping you stuck.
  • Healthy, compassionate challenge when you need it; direct feedback without being harsh, supportive honesty without sugarcoating.
  • Affirming, individualized care that supports your identity, your pace, and your goals.

And just to be clear:

I don’t believe therapy is just handing you a list of coping skills and hoping it fixes your life. Coping skills can be helpful, but not when they’re used as shallow band-aids or TikTok-level “tips.” I care more about why the coping is needed in the first place—and how we can change the patterns underneath so you don’t spend every day trying to “manage” your way through life.

I’m here to help you understand:

  • Why you react the way you do,
  • How your nervous system responds to stress and old wounds,
  • The patterns that keep repeating,

and:

  • How to build a life—and inner world—that actually supports your wellbeing.

This isn’t surface-level symptom management.

This is deeper work that leads to real growth, clarity, and change.

Yes—I currently provide supervision only for LCASA clinicians in North Carolina.

My supervision style is similar to my therapy style: collaborative, direct, supportive, and rooted in real clinical growth—not just checking boxes. We’ll focus on your clinical judgment, ethical practice, documentation clarity, substance use competency, and developing your authentic therapeutic voice.

This is a place for real people.
If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right spot.
If you know what you should do but feel paralyzed, detached, or stuck in procrastination loops, we’ll explore the underlying fears and self-protection strategies that keep you stuck—and learn new ways of moving forward.
For ADHD, autism, or simply feeling “different,” we’ll look at how your brain works—not what’s “wrong” with it—and create strategies that match your wiring. The goal is a life that fits you, not the other way around.
If your emotions feel too big, too fast, or too confusing, we’ll explore what triggers the intensity and build a framework to understand what your brain and body are actually trying to communicate. This is about regulation, not suppression.
If you’re stuck in cycles—conflict, shutting down, caretaking, choosing emotionally unavailable partners—we’ll unpack the patterns underneath and build healthier ways of relating that feel grounding instead of chaotic.
Whether you’ve experienced a single event or long-term, chronic stress, we’ll work to understand how trauma has shaped your nervous system, your beliefs, and your relationships. Healing isn’t about “getting over it”—it’s about reclaiming safety, identity, and connection at your own pace.
